Weight…as women, in culture, we all struggle with weight issues. As we mature we seem to have even MORE weight issues. We may not be as active as when we were younger or our metabolism slows down and we can’t eat all the foods we used to LOVE to devour! One piece of cake and we’re 1 pound heavier than yesterday! What’s going on?

This past winter, during the sale of my studio and numerous moving and purging days, I baked a lot of cookies…and ATE a lot of cookies. It was my way of coping with the stress. While I could have done this in my younger days without gaining a pound, at this point of my mature life, this has serious consequences. I gained 10 pounds! Clothes were tighter and I didn’t feel good.

Well, there’s a way to “have it all”, good food, baked goods, while staying slim and healthy. How? you ask. One word. Moderation. And lots of salads. I’ve never been a deep –fried-cheese-curd-bratwurst kind of person so practicing moderation was do-able for me. Healthy delicious smoothies for breakfast, sandwiches with lots of meat, lettuce and tomatoes for lunch, salmon, chicken and a huge salad full of lots of good things for supper. I cut out carbs.

My sweet tooth? An occasional scone from my favorite coffee shop or a piece of Upside Down Cherry Almond Cake that I bake for the shop. The rest of the time my sweet tooth snacked on fresh cherries, peaches, watermelon, blueberries and all the fruits in season, topped with an occasional dollop of Cool Whip or whipped cream and toasted nuts. The result? I feel lighter, I am lighter and I know I’m doing something good for myself. Try it.
