Puppy Kisses & Cuddles

Does your puppy like to give you kisses? My Angel does. Especially when I’ve eaten something that smells yummy to her, which could be just about anything.

Dogs do like to give us kisses, cuddles and even hugs. And we humans like to give kisses and hugs back to our dogs.

Maybe that’s why we love our little four-legged family members so much, for their enthusiasm and loving nature. This has been going on for a long, long time. Archeologists have excavated remains of human beings buried with their dogs some 14,000 year ago. Today about 80 million dogs live in the United States and we spend billions of dollars on our pets each year. I’ve contributed to that figure with several puppy collars, leashes, and even a raincoat for Angel. (I NEVER ever thought I’d be buying dog clothes! Love will do that to you.) Chewy.com has everything I need for my dogs and cats.

My granddaughter, Ava, alerted me to a Youtube video that shows how to make a puppy bed out of an old sweater–preferably one that belongs to the owner–so the puppy can feel secure with the owner’s scent on her bed. It’s super easy and really fun to make. I’m going to make one out of an ugly Christmas sweater (which isn’t that ugly at all.) What a great, inexpensive idea and a sweet thing to do for your dog.

And since I’m buying raincoats and making doggy beds, I might as well make some puppy treats. There are only 3 ingredients in this easy recipe and I know your dog or puppy will love them as much as Angel does!

Puppy Kisses

In a medium size bowl, put 1 cup of Quick Cooking Oatmeal and 1/2 cup cinnamon applesauce. (Do not add extra cinnamon to the applesauce.) Mix well. Add 1 beaten egg and mix again until the batter comes together. Drop a tablespoon of mixture for each Kiss on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-22 minutes. Cool Kisses before you give them to your puppy.

*Note: Cinnamon will not hurt your dog, but do not add other spices such as nutmeg, which is toxic to dogs.
