A Door County Morning

Have you taken time out for yourself lately? I did a few days ago. The constant barrage of news and daily problems was making me feel heavy and out of sorts and I knew I had to do something! Get out of the house, said a voice deep in my heart. The sky was blue, the sun was shining, I grabbed my iphone and off I went, letting my instinct take me where it would. I headed north to Baileys Harbor and The Bearded Heart Coffee & Cafe for breakfast.

The colorful yellow fixtures and tables outside inspired me to take numerous photos while waiting for my breakfast which I ate slowly in the warm morning sunshine.

Then it was off to Anclam Park, a jetty reaching out into Lake Michigan. As settlers came to the land surrounding the town of Bailey’s Harobor, in the 1870s, to begin farming, steamboats carrying passengers arrived regularly from ports to the south docking at what is now Anclam Park. Baileys Harbor, was once a logging camp, shipping point and the original county seat.

Every time I stop at this park I feel like I’ve left the world behind. This day the water was pure gold dancing in the sun light against a brilliant sky. I sat on a boulder and listened to the waves lapping against the shore, one after another, as they’ve being doing for millions of years and slowly the world’s problems were washed away, at least for the time being. I thought of the early settlers who came here years ago and I felt calm and blessed to be able to spend the morning in a lovely place like this.
