You’ll need some very fresh beautiful apples. Wash them, then cut them into quarters. Drop the cut apples into a large pot, add a 1/2 cup of water, 1/3 cup of brown sugar and, the secret ingredient, 1 Tablespoon of unsalted butter. Put a tight light on the pot and simmer until the apples are tender. Sprinkle with cinnamon and then just mush them up with a wooden spoon so you still have some chunks of apple in the sauce. Eat right away if you want that warm
A photo from some years back, when friends could sit closely together. Here, amid giagantic pumpkins, my dear friend, Cindy, and I took a moment to enjoy autumn in Door County. Times may have changed but memories stay the same forever.
