I am an artist, a baker, and a lover of all things that celebrate life. Among those things are family (my granddaughter is adorable!) and my cat Tigger. Maybe you feel like I do - that there just aren't enough hours to create and share the good things each day brings.
My German/Czech family brought our joyful European traditions with us when we immigrated to a friendly, small town in North Dakota from war-torn Europe in 1949.
We loved sharing our cultural heritage with our new neighbors and friends. Our home was filled with creativity, fun and laughter. My grandmother Oma's beautiful, hand-painted furniture and buttery Almond Cake - fresh from the oven - delighted our visitors.
Inspired and mentored by Oma, I opened Pipka’s Workshop in Minneapolis. It was there that I painted custom designs with a European flair on furniture. I also taught painting classes and wrote books, while my mother created pillows and accessories out of imported fabrics from Austria.
Later, with my feet firmly planted in the artistic community that is Door County, Wisconsin, the inspiration for my Old World Santa figures appeared on a quiet, snow-filled day. From a painting created as a Christmas gift, my passion for Father Christmas was born.
And so it is that inspiration and my European roots continue to nudge my creative spirit. Each time, it whispers, "Share the joy!" My new floral paintings hint of brightly-colored Czech folk art, and - maybe it's Oma speaking to me - I'm happy to introduce a new line of Almond Cake gifts and baskets.
Thanks for stopping by! If you visit my shop in Door County, Almond Cake is always offered to nibble and my special blend coffee is always hot.
