Alaskan Santa
The Alaskan Santa blends native culture with Christmas traditions. His costume, worthy of a chief, is moose hide trimmed with beaver fur and elaborately decorated with beads, felt and cloth. His red sack bears a tree, a grizzly bear toy, and a carved tribal mask to honor ancestors. It also contains a drum and hydroplane. In Santa’s pocket is a little toy seal, reminiscent of the seals that rest on floating icebergs throughout the straits of Alaska. His wolf-like companion, the Alaskan Malamute, pulls the sleigh across snow covered terrain for children huddled in warm, cozy homes all over Alaska.
