The birth of Christ was first celebrated in Italy around 300 A.D. Craftsmen started making creche sets depicting the Holy Family in the stable. Angels, who throughout history were considered a spiritual bridge between heaven and earth, were part of the holy scene.

The Italian Angel lifts her trumpet and blows with all her might to announce the Good News to the world. Her hand is held over her heart, and she feels it pounding with joy at this most glorious event. Alleluia! Alleluia! Her trumpet is heard over the hills, into sleeping valleys and towards the stars in the sky so that even they, twinkling in their diamond splendor, may rejoice at the birth of Christ.
