Not every family has a chimney, so the Knock, Knock Santa sometimes quietly taps on the front door before coming inside to leave his gifts. Knocking on a door is a way of asking permission to come in, so the Knock, Knock Santa also symbolizes the significant knocks on the door of our lives.
