Lately, just for fun, I have been working on geometric compositions.
This is not my style at all, but I had a dream about a composition and in the dream, it felt so exciting and good that I woke up and made a quick sketch on a piece of paper on my nightstand.
I felt an urgency to not forget what I had seen in my dream.
The next day, I went into my studio and sketched out the dream composition and began to “color” in the spaces with Posca and Arrtx markers.
At this point it didn’t look like anything special.
I wasn’t sure what I was doing, or why.
But I kept going.
Next, I outlined everything with a thin black permanent pen and began adding a few patterns here and there.
I could tell it was beginning to take shape.
I didn’t really have a plan but just tried to listen to my intuition.
During this process, I left the composition several times to do other things around the house, then came back to work on it for an hour or two.
This way, it seemed I wasn’t under pressure to create “something beautiful" or on a deadline, rather I was relaxed and just went with the flow.
After a few days, I felt the design was finished.
I made two copies on my printer and attached them together.
While I was trimming and attaching the pieces together, a ray of sun travelled through a crystal on the windowsill and landed right on the center of the design, creating a beautiful glow in the center of the painting.
I took a photo.
It was magical.
It looked like what I saw in my dream… but even better.
What it is, what does it mean?
I don’t know…I just love it.
