St. Nicholas
St. Nicholas is the patron saint of many countries, including Russia. St. Nicholas lived in the 4th century, and legend has it that he gained sainthood with hos generosity and charity toward the less fortunate. His life inspired others to begin giving presents in his name on his feast day of December 6th. Because St. Nicholas was such a popular, beloved saint, the Catholic Church gave him the important job of looking after children at Christmastime. Traditionally, a little angel accompanies St. Nicholas, carrying his big book of the names of all boys and girls around the world.
