Upon returning from a cruise to Alaska with her mother, Pipka referred to her sketches and photos of her memorable trip, to design the Alaskan Santa which became one of the most popular Santas in the Memories of Christmas Collection. “To be in the place, see the people, taste the food, visit the museums, that is what fuels my inspiration and makes for an authentic design”, says Pipka. The Alaskan Santa wears a coat made of animal skin trimmed with intricate beaded embroidery. He carries a fresh cut tree and toys that represent Alaska; a yellow water plane, a native mask and drum. If you look closely, you can see a little baby seal is tucked into his pocket. One of his faithful sled dogs accompanies him on this perilous journey throughout the rough and magestic Alaskan terrain.
