Although I have been fortunate to travel to many countries during the Christmas season, I have not been to Mexico. But when I began to research the Mexican customs at Christmas time, I was quickly enchanted by their love of family, children and the true meaning of Christmas. There's a parade, or posada, where the children, holding candles, sing songs and knock on doors in memory of the Holy Family's travel to Bethlehem and their attempt to find a place to stay. The pinata is star shaped and full of fruit and candy. It represents the 7 deadly sins and the breaking of the pinata repsents God's blessings when all the treats fall out. There's 9 days of celebrating before Christmas Eve when the Christ Child is finally placed in his manger.
