The Irish Santa
Christmas in Ireland is a holy time celebrated with church services, family gatherings, story telling, good food, music and dance. The Irish Santa joins in the festivities while representing so much of Irish culture. He is accompanied by a leprechaun playing a violin and sitting by a candle that symbolizes an Irish tradition where families put a candle in the window to welcome Santa or the Christ Child that happen to be walking by. A book of poems, Gulliver’s Travels, Irish lace, a castle, balls of yarn, the flag of Ireland and a thatched cottage for the Holy Family are just some of the gifts in the Irish Santa’s sack. His pocket is filled with potatoes so the people of Ireland will never be hungry again.
